------Our unique juniper furniture designs
begin in the desert forests of New Mexico, where we find ancient juniper trees, sometimes over 1000 years old, that have died from old age. We bring the slabs to our studio in Algodones, a small historic community located approximately half-way between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. I first determine how best to use the wood, utilizing the natural features as much as possible and book-matching the pieces. If there is a natural hole in the wood, we often fill it with polished marble or semi-precious stones accenting the woods natural grain. Finally, after hours of sanding and polishing, we apply several coats of oil and wax, sometimes taking weeks to complete an inviting finish. We leave some areas with rustic rough bark edges to contrast with the smooth finish and quality craftsmanship. Our desire is to create an heirloom piece and, more importantly, to artistically display the beauty within nature, causing the spirit within man to be in awe of God’s creation. |
